Preview: Peterborough Sports (A)

27 January 2024

After two postponements that followed our defeat on the road to Brackley, the Iron will be looking to finally avenge our recent loss and bring all three points back to the Attis Arena.

The day will be important to gaffer Jimmy Dean, as he visits the team he joined the Iron from for the first time since he left the Turbines.

Jimmy had a very successful spell at Peterborough Sports, achieving promotion four times in five seasons, collecting three titles and 11 trophies in total under his tenure at the club.

Going into the game, United remain second in the table nine points behind leaders Tamworth, who we face on Tuesday, with two games in hand over the Lambs.

The reverse fixture was a frustrating day for Scunthorpe, conceding a late equaliser, in a game where goal-gaping chances were missed, including a penalty kick.

IRON TEAM NEWS

United will be without striker Danny Whitehall, who sits out the third and final game of his suspension for the red card picked up at the end of 2023 at Farsley Celtic, with the ban carrying over for the last two games following postponement.

Jason Law continues to miss out due to a toe injury, as declared by Jimmy Dean in his pre-match press conference, while the Iron have Tom Pugh available for selection following his recall from Hereford.

THE OPPOSITION

Although Peterborough Sports are 15th in the table, the Turbines find themselves unbeaten in their last five so the Iron will have to be wary and look out for the dangers our opposition will bring.

The Turbines at home have been seen as a mixed bag when it comes to their home form. In the 13 games hosted they have won five, lost five and drew three. This unpredictability could be seen as a danger to the Iron, and we need to be ready and prepared for whatever turns up against us on Saturday.
