Preview: Scarborough Athletic (A)

17 February 2024

The Iron return to action, facing a Scarborough Athletic side  who are fighting for promotion themselves sitting in seventh place in the table, the final play-off spot.

Similarly to our run of form, the Boro have picked up just two wins in their last eight matches, and have not had a victory in their last three, losing twice and drawing once.

In the reverse fixture, the Iron made a statement with an emphatic victory winning 4-1, Fin Shrimpton, Cameron Wilson and Danny Elliott all got on the scoresheet and the fourth goal was an own goal by Euan Mulhern, before Lewis Maloney got a consolation for Boro.

IRON TEAM NEWS

After seeing the transfer embargo lifted, the Iron welcomed new signings to the squad with attacking midfielder Flynn Clarke joining on loan until the end of the season from Norwich City. The 21-year-old has represented Scotland at Under-21 youth level and will be looking to bring some quality and experience to our squad.

Liam McAlinden, versatile forward, has also joined after his contract with Wrexham was cut short and will be looking to bring more goals for the Iron as we look to rack up more points on the table.

We have also signed talented winger Dylan Youmbi on a loan deal from Bradford until the end of the season, Youmbi has been performing on loan for Farsley Celtic and showed his talent against us both times we have played them this year.

All three new recruits are available for the Scarborough game as they look to have an
immediate impact for our season.

Elsewhere, Jason Law and Callum Roberts are both absent through injury.

THE OPPOSITION

As far as goalscorers go for Scarborough Harry Green leads the way for them as top scorer and has scored 11 goals in 26 appearances proving himself to be a key prolific player in the league.

Green came through another Boro’s ranks in Middlesbrough, where he came through the youth and played for the U18s and U21s before leaving to Whitby Town on a free transfer after being on loan for the club for whilst at Middlesborough. After one year at Whitby he was snapped up by our opponents today on a free transfer and they have reaped the rewards of this signing as Harry Green continues to prove his worth.
