The Iron are back in action coming off the back of a stalemate draw in our top of the table clash at home to Hereford. Andy Butler’s side look to get three points on a Boxing Day away day at Peterborough Sports.

A strong aspect for Scunthorpe this season has been their defensive performances so far this season, the Iron have picked up four clean sheets in their last five, and no team has conceded less goals than them (15). Ross Fitzsimons and the rest of the United defence will be looking to keep another clean sheet. With only eight goals conceded on the road, the Iron have become a difficult side to break down and beat.

Our opponents have had a mixture of form on home soil with four wins, four losses and two draws in their 10 league games played this season at their home ground, Lincoln Road. Peterborough Sports have found themselves to become a tough team to beat as of late, having now gone eight straight league games without a loss. The concern for the Turbines will be the amount of draws in their lost eight league games (five draws, three wins) and their lack of clean sheets, having gone 12 league games without a clean sheet.

A key player for Peterborough Sports is summer signing, 24-year-old centre forward, Michael Gyasi. The German has bagged six goals and managed three assists in his 18 league appearances this season and has been involved in 34% of the Turbines’ goals this season. The Leicester City youth graduate has been a great success since joining Peterborough from Boston United, and will look to get back on the scoresheet against the Iron.

Dan Jarvis has been an important player this season for the hosts. The number 10 has found himself to become a goal scoring threat this season and has netted five times in the league from midfield and bagged an assist. Jarvis, aged 25, joined Peterborough Sports before the 2020-21 season and has found himself to become a key player, and managed nine goals and an assist last season from 38 appearances.

As the Iron come into the game with a strong defensive record, our opponents have gone 10 games without not scoring a goal, and will look to put United’s defensive record to the test. United’s objective will be to get back to winning ways and continue their strong away form (20 points from 11 games) only Curzon have picked up more points on the road.
