The Iron’s Under-18s’ were comprehensive winners on Saturday morning, winning by 5-1 away at Rotherham United.

Harrison Poulter (2), Tyrell Sellars-Fleming (2) and Nat Wallace were the scorers in South Yorkshire, with two of our players also dismissed late on during proceedings.

It was Poulter who opened the scoring early on for Scunthope, as he raced through following a smart pass from Sellars-Fleming, finishing coolly underneath the Millers goalkeeper.

Despite our dominance early on, Rotherham hit back soon after, as the no.10 did well to carve open an opportunity and finish into the bottom corner.

Harry Lewis then found time and space to break free down the flank, before cutting the ball back to Nat Wallace, who restored the Iron’s lead with just over half an hour played.

As the game edged on, Lewis again looked to cause trouble down the side, as his cross evaded everyone in a claret and blue shirt, with the half time whistle sounding shortly after.

United were quick out of the traps as the second half began, with the link up between Sellars-Fleming and Poulter continuing to cause the home side problems in the attacking areas.

We were rewarded for our persistence just before the hour mark, when Sellars-Fleming was brought down inside the area after some neat build up play. Poulter duly obliged from twelve yards, as our lead grew to 3-1.

Sellars-Fleming got in on the act minutes later, as he grabbed his first of the game after racing through in behind to slide the ball underneath the Millers goalkeeper.

The scoring was complete just six minutes later, as Sellars-Fleming was on the receiving end of a superb reverse pass from Poulter, as he slammed home our fifth of the game.

There was however to be late drama, as both Harry Lewis and Ben Pyke were sent off for individual late challenges, both receiving straight red’s in the process.

The game however ended 5-1, with Professional Development Lead Coach Mark Smith full of praise for the Iron’s academy performance.

"We did the basics very well I thought and controlled the game throughout, there was a lot to be impressed with," he began.

"Breaking quickly was key to everything good we did today and I feel as if it could and should have been more in terms of our goal tally. Things got a little bit heated towards the end but thats football and we’ll look forward to next week."
