Martyn Woolford scored two as Scunthorpe handed Newcastle their second successive defeat and extended their winless streak to four games On This Day in 2009.
The hosts scored the opener after a mistake by Zurab Khizanishvili allowed in Gary Hooper who passed to Woolford for the winger to tap in.
After a fine run from Danny Guthrie Newcastle hit back with Kevin Nolan firing into the bottom corner.
