Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Wright to the Board of Directors.

Lifelong Iron fan Neil joins as the Fan-Elected Director, which comes following a voting procedure involving the Iron's various supporters’ groups.

Neil, who is Chairman of the club's London and South East Supporters Club (SULSESC) and is also a board member of the Iron Trust, will represent the supporters’ groups at board level, to build and sustain a credible and beneficial relationship between United and our supporter base, ensuring the views, interest and aspirations of supporters’ group members and the wider fan base are taken into account.

A further aim is to develop the communication between the Board and supporters, sharing as much information as possible with the supporters’ groups and the wider fan base.

Neil said: “For me, this is an unbelievable lifelong ambition achieved; a seat on the Board at Scunthorpe United. To be elected as the club’s first ever Fan-Elected Director, not only by my own supporters’ club, but also by the members of the other supporters’ groups, is just an honour.

“I’ve passionately supported this club all my life and during the late 70s, as a teenager, I had the privilege to work on one of the home turnstiles at the Old Show Ground, later being promoted to take charge of making the half-time tea in the home changing room.

“I’ve always promoted this club wherever I’ve been; I lived in London and Essex from the early 80s. Choosing to take semi-retirement I relocated back up north in 2019. I worked in Dubai from 2015 to 2017 where I was the founding (and only member) of Dubai Iron. Since 2009 I’ve been proud and honoured to be Chairman of the London and South East Supporters Club (SULSESC), a supporters‘ group I joined in the early 90s. I was invited to join the Board of the Iron Trust in 2021, a position I now also hold with pride.

“I look forward to working with the Chairman and other members of the Board to ensure that fan engagement once again becomes an integral focus within this club and moreover striving to ensure that we become a community football club once again.”

Scunthorpe United would like to thank John Needham and Councillor Tony Gosling from the Iron Trust, the Football Supporters' Association and all the supporters’ groups for working with the club on this appointment.
