Scunthorpe saw off Forest to end a run of five straight league defeats On This Day in 2005.
Lee Ridley put the Iron ahead after an error by visiting keeper Paul Gerrard, before Gareth Taylor equalised for Forest from the penalty spot.
But Scunthorpe substitute Tommy Johnson set up Cleveland Taylor to restore his side's lead with a delightful shot.
And the home side's victory was sealed before the end when Cliff Byrne got the final touch after Ian Baraclough's corner was flicked on by Peter Beagrie.
