The Iron's Under-18s travelled away to Hartlepool United in their opening game of the season on Saturday, with neither side finding the net throughout the 0-0 stalemate.
The squad featured three Under-16s players, namely Grayson Giles who played 90 minutes, as well as Blake Gregory, Oakley Hill and Harry Stabler who all made the bench for the Iron.
“Both teams cancelled each other out really,” began Academy Manager Tony Daws on the game.
“We got on the ball but felt like we turned over the ball too often and easily. It’s something we need to work on, develop, and get better at. We need to be winning the ball back, retain it well enough, try to penetrate and then score a goal but we can’t rush to do that.
“We were missing a number of players. Two strikers in Ty Sellars-Fleming & Harrison Poulter, Nat Wallace and Euan Oxborough who were all with the first team squad.
“It doesn’t matter what group we’ve got though. They all are representing themselves and the football club. We get on with it, we work hard and play.
“All in all – it’s the first game of the season. The boys have had their long pre-season, worked together, despite three different pre-season games due to circumstances. After two-and-a-half hours on the minibus, getting a draw away from home was good and we'll move ahead to the next one.”
