First team manager Keith Hill spoke to Iron Player after his side's 2-0 loss at Woking on Tuesday night.
He said: "I'm feeling really shellshocked. It's difficult because I haven't got an awful lot to say except wholeheartedly apologise to the supporters, who were magnificent and shared the journey with us.
"The performance just wasn't acceptable and I include myself and the coaching staff in that.
"We've been brilliant for the best part of six or seven weeks, and I certainly wasn't expecting that performance.
"You want your players and team to reflect your attitude and desire, and my eyes don't lie. I've put a lot of trust in the group, it's my group and I'm deeply disappointed. It's down to a combination of things, not just the players.
"The supporters deserve more than that from me and the group. Tonight's game hurt me like a dagger through the chest.
"I've been through a lot of football and there should be no fear from a group of players playing on a Tuesday night at Woking. There should be respect for the opponent.
"I saw a lot of fear in the way that we played. We had one great chance (early on through Marcus Carver, which was cleared off the line). However, we seemed to panic in possession, making the wrong choice of pass, and it's not a reflection of the good work the players have done, which is getting lost in the wash at this moment in time.
"We have another big game coming up on Saturday (against Solihull Moors at Glanford Park), and there will be significantly more pressure on it because we've underperformed today."
