The 20-year-old passed his medical early on Friday morning, saying: “It was quite an early one. I only found out I was coming last night, but it was nice to get up early fresh in the morning and it was a nice drive down (from Middlesbrough)."
Fletcher revealed how fast-paced the move was, from the initial interest to officially signing for the Iron, stating: “It started a few days ago and things just escalated quickly, I wanted to get in and get started.
“As soon as I heard – I wanted to come here and play, and we’ve got it done quick.”
Talking about former loanee Hayden Hackney, who praised the club to Fletcher, he revealed: “Hayden said a lot of good things about the place, I asked him and a few of the lads I know here (Reagan Ogle and Marcus Carver) as well and they all say it’s a great group and that I’d enjoy my football.
“Everyone I spoke to said good things about the club.”
Fletcher spent the second half of last season on loan at Hartlepool United, where he met now Iron summer recruits Ogle and Carver. Expanding on those two, he said: “I’ve spoke to them a bit. I know they’ve both settled in and are enjoying it. It always helps when you know people here and they’re saying positive things about the club.”
Looking forward to the prospect of a game away at Bromley swiftly after his arrival, he said: “It’s a long journey, but I’ll get to know the lads hopefully, I’m looking forward to it. I want to play games, that’s why I came here, so I’ll get straight into it with the Saturday – Monday [Bromley and FC Halifax Town)."
Joking on heading straight into his initiation too, he said: “I haven’t got one planned, but I should be alright. I’ll have to think of one on the way down!"
Describing himself as a player, the Middlesbrough midfielder said: “My best position is probably as a number eight. I like to get up and down the pitch, trying to add goals to my game. Physically I’m tall and need to compete and do that side of the game, but I do like to try get goals and impact games in the attacking half when possible.
“Both boxes are important, attacking and defensively, so that’s something I hope I can add to the team.”
Finishing with his ambitions whilst at the Iron, he said: “I want to come here and enjoy my football, rack up as many games as possible, and keep impacting games whether that’s goals, assists, or something in the defensive half.
“It’s something I’m really looking forward to, it’s a great opportunity, and a few goals would be nice up until January.”
