Club statement: Simon Elliott returns to Board of Directors

22 November 2021

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the return of Simon Elliott to the Board of Directors.

Simon was a Board Member from 2005 to 2009 and enjoyed some positive years with the club, having been promoted twice to the Championship during this time. He was involved in the signings of Andy Crosby, Billy Sharp, Gary Hooper, Andy Keogh and Peter Beagrie, as well as the appointment of Nigel Adkins to first team manager in 2006.

Simon brings a wealth of experience and will be remembered for his sponsorship of the club with Jeep, Mercedes, VW Commercial Vehicles and MAN trucks in the past, so this background and love of the football club will be a great asset as we aim to move forward.

Simon joins the club as a Non-Executive Director and will support the CEO Leanne Mayo on all aspects of the club but certainly commercial and sponsorship.

Speaking about the new signing, Chairman Peter Swann said: “I am delighted that Simon has agreed to join my family and I on the board. His enthusiasm for SUFC coupled with his desire to help us start to progress again is a real bonus and I look forward to developing a close relationship with him as we look to make progress on and off the pitch. He is a true Scunthorpe United fan and I know supporters will appreciate this appointment.”

Simon added: “It’s been a tough period for Scunthorpe United and when I was asked to consider re-joining the Board it was a choice of either sit back and do nothing or get back involved to support the Chairman, CEO and the Directors. We’ll learn from the past and develop a strategy to take Scunthorpe in the right direction with the supporters at the forefront of our thinking. Nobody gets everything right all of the time but by having a fresh pair of eyes and maybe a different lens on things we can improve, and together make Scunthorpe United an enviable club once again.”
