Club historian provides lasting reminder of those who paid ultimate sacrifice

9 November 2021

Club historian John Staff’s presented the Iron with a lasting reminder of former players who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War on Saturday.

Tying in with the club’s day of remembrance against Doncaster Rovers, which saw a short service take place prior to kick-off, John took to the field at half-time to present the club the framed item to Head of Marketing, Ticketing and Retail, Rob Noble.

Inscribed on the back of the frame is: “A commemoration of the brave former players of our club who gave their lives during the Great War 1914-1918.
“This framed item is a perpetual gift to the supporters of Scunthorpe United, so they can remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, in order we can live in freedom, and enjoy the sport that they were pioneers of.”
United will be displaying the item at the Sands Venue Stadium in a location to be determined, so that supporters can view, respect and remember the fallen that were associated to our football club.
