After going down to 10 men following a penalty incident late in the second half which saw skipper Jordan Clarke sent off, it was Alfie Beestin that levelled the score with an important goal on 90 minutes.
Speaking to iFollow Iron, Cox said: “I’m relieved we got a point. It’s another point to where we need to get to. The rest I’d like to forget as much as possible. It wasn’t a good display. We looked really leggy, and we tried to rest them during the week after the midweek game (against Oldham Athletic) and not do too much, but you could tell. I maybe should have made four or five changes like I thought about, but I stayed with them.
“It wasn’t very good. We didn’t pass the ball, we didn’t run forward, we didn’t hold it up. We defended okay, but there was nothing in the game until the sending off issue. After that, Beestin produced a bit of magic, and it was the only good bit of play we found on the day.”
He added: “We have to look at this game, put it to bed and move forward. It was a poor performance, but we nicked something out of the game. Earlier on in the season we would have got beaten three or four nil. So we have a look at that and put it to bed, moving on to the next game.”
Reacting to the penalty incident involving Jordan Clarke, he said: “Jordan has admitted to pushing him, but we're not sure on it being violent conduct. Yet again, it’s a little bit disappointing, and a decision going against us. But we will have a look at it before we see what we’re going to do (in terms of appealing)."
Kevin van Veen and Ryan Loft both came off during the game, but Cox explained it was only as a precaution.
He said: “I brought Lofty off as he wasn’t having his best of games, and was just struggling to get into it. Kev took a whack just before he went down with the injury, so we will just have to be careful with him. It’s not his hamstring, its more his knee."
United's next game is on Tuesday against Bradford City at the Sands Venue Stadium, and he said: “There are a few boys that are not going to be fit to play, so we will have a look. There are boys who have been training hard and those that have not been in the squad might have to come into it.”
