Billson: It's the next step of my career and I can't wait to start

"It's a new step in my career and I can't wait to start," said highly-rated goalkeeper Tom Billson after signing on a season-long loan from Championship side Coventry City.

The 20-year-old arrives at the Sands Venue Stadium for his first EFL loan spell away from the Sky Blues, and cannot wait for the prospect of potentially debuting in the pre-season friendly against Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

The tall shotstopper told iFollow Iron: "I'm excited and looking forward to it. It's been a long time coming so it's good to eventually get here, and I'm just looking forward to doing my best and getting as many minutes as possible."

Billson is our seventh new arrival of the summer and arrives after a spell away training in Spain with his parent club's first team squad.

He added: "It was very hot but it was good, and it was enjoyable to train with the first team day in, day out.

"Coming here is a new step for me and a chance to show what I can do in games. I'm sure the competition will be very good so any minutes I get I'll be entirely grateful for, but it's just about taking any opportunity that comes along."

Talking about his career so far and further about his loan move to the Iron, he continued: "I started at Leicester when I was a young boy and went to Coventry as a scholar. I made my first team debut there last year. This season was always about going out on loan, and going somewhere where I hopefully have a chance of playing. This move is perfect for me and I can't wait to get started.

"(League Two) is a perfect, challenging level for me and I just want to come in and do the best I can for the team. Any game time and minutes I can get will really help."

Former Iron manager Mark Robins manages Billson's parent club Coventry, and the shotstopper hopes he can impress him while at the Sands Venue Stadium.

He said: "That's the bigger goal, but right now I'm focused on trying to get in this team. The gaffer told me it was a fantastic place to be, so it's all positive really.

"I'm looking forward to getting started, cracking on and looking forward."
