The Iron's Under-18 side's five game winning run came to a halt on Saturday morning when they were beaten 1-0 at Rotherham United.

*This was the Iron's home fixture having played away from home already this season, but the game was facilitated by Rotherham United on their 4G facility due to the weather.

Missing Joey Dawson for the game, it was a very even first half. Rotherham started on the front foot and closed the table-topping Iron down quickly.

On 18 minutes, the Millers had a free-kick that hit the crossbar, while they opened the scoring on 40 minutes when a man became free at the far post from a corner and converted home the game's only goal.

Three minutes later, Cameron Wilson dribbled forward and had a shot tipped over for a corner. In the 45th minute, the Iron got in behind the Millers defence but Rotherham managed to get it clear.

Scunthorpe started the second half well, and Jamie Moore burst forward down the right three minutes into it. He crossed the ball and it just skimmed off Harry Lewis' head.

Jake Balme made a good save on 60 minutes, tipping a shot from the edge of the box over the crossbar.

For the final 15 minutes, the Iron threw everything at the Millers, with Dan Gallimore having a shot blocked in the 78th minute.

Patrick Virgo was then played in and his looped volley just clipped the top of the bar and went over on 83 minutes.

Scunthorpe had shouts for three penalties in the last five minutes which were turned away, with the hosts holding on for three points.

"We were disappointed we couldn't get our passing game going, which is full credit to Rotherham. We've got to go again now and play Mansfield away on Saturday," said Professional Development Phase Coach Steve Thornber.
