SCENE-SETTER...

Goals from Myles Hippolyte and Alex Gilliead capped an impressive performance at the Banks's Stadium for a Scunthorpe side that had undergone five changes from Boxing Day.

It was a first win in three matches and provided a much-needed boost to the squad following defeats to Grimsby Town and Mansfield Town.

They will be hoping to start the new year in the best possible way with a victory against Alex Revell's side, who sit six points below us in the table.

We sit 19th and could potentially climb up to 15th with victory, while the hosts are 23rd and will be looking to close the gap.

THE OPPOSITION...

Stevenage claimed a first win in five League Two games by beating Cambridge 1-0 at the Lamex Stadium on Tuesday night, thanks to Charlie Carter's first-half effort.

On Boxing Day they picked up another good result, drawing 1-1 at Cheltenham Town, with substitute Jack Aitchison's late goal helping secure a point.

They had previously had two games postponed due to Covid-19.

Goalkeeping Jamie Cumming tops their appearance charts with 19 league starts to his name, while forward Aramide Oteh, on loan from QPR, is top scorer with three goals.

TEAM NEWS...

Ryan Loft is rated at '50/50' ahead of the match after coming off at half-time on Tuesday night with a hip injury following a collision with the Walsall goalkeeper.

Myles Hippolyte has an ankle injury from the midweek win and has been ruled out for this weekend's game.

Aaron Jarvis (hamstring) and Jordan Hallam (thigh) both went for scans on Thursday and the club will know how long they're expected to be out for later in the week.

Kenan Dünnwald-Turan missed the Under-23s' game against Huddersfield Town with a sore foot as a precaution but could be in contention for a place in the squad this weekend.

Emmanuel Onariase faces around a further two to three weeks out with an ankle injury sustained last weekend against Mansfield Town.

Harrison McGahey (hamstring) is still missing, and is expected to be back available in late January, while Junior Brown (thigh) is ahead of schedule and back on the training pitch, and may be back in the squad.

Kevin van Veen recently returned to the Netherlands for a short break as he recovers from an injection on the hamstring injury which will keep him out for around 10 weeks, while Frank Vincent (thigh) and Fin Shrimpton (ankle) are on the sidelines.

Olufela Olomola faces around two months on the sidelines following a knee injury sustained after coming off the bench against Bolton Wanderers in November.

PAST MEETINGS...

We met them at the Sands Venue Stadium last season, playing out a goal-less stalemate.

Prior to that, the Iron had won twice, drawn once and lost once against the Boro.
