Goalkeeper Mark Howard has spoken to iFollow Iron ahead of this Saturday’s clash against Oldham Athletic (3pm kick-off).
After three wins and clean sheets in a row over the course of six days, spirits at United are high as they look forward to this weekend's home League Two encounter.
Talking to iFollow Iron, he said: “Last week was very pleasing. It was something we needed to go and do to prove to ourselves and everybody else that we are a good team that can stick together and show determination. We were delighted to get nine points in a week.”
Howard celebrated his 100th career clean sheet against Port Vale last week, and is hoping for many more after making it 101 in the 1-0 away win at Colchester last Friday.
He said: “It’s something I’ve always tried to do and strive for. We had confidence after those two home wins, and it was nice to go again and take that form straight into the Colchester game.”
The Iron have had an eight-day break since the last game and are feeling refreshed for Saturday.
He said: “Spirits are high. We have worked hard this week in training, but we also had a couple of days off as well. Hopefully it’s given us the right rest, and mentally some time to focus on what’s left of the season.”
The last encounter against Oldham saw the Iron win 2-0 at Boundary Park, and Howard said: “When we played them it was a tough game, I thought we did well and caught them on the counter-attack. Obviously, we scored a couple of good goals (through Jacob Bedeau and Kevin van Veen) that were memorable and hopefully we keep continuing to play the way we’re playing. It’ll be a tough game; we know it will be. We’ve had good patches and bad patches, but I think we’re prepared.”
He added: “We’ve seen some really good performances from individuals. We’ve put in good team performances and we have defended well throughout.”
The team are hoping to build on last week and carry on a winning streak. He said: “A couple of losses and you could be back the other way. I think first and foremost, you have to concentrate one game at a time and keep trying to strive for the next win. We’ll see where that takes us.”
