Attacker Harry Bunn gave his immediate reaction to iFollow Iron following the 3-1 Boxing Day victory away from home against Oldham Athletic.

“It is a massive result for us. To come here and get three points against a side down there with us is massive,” said Bunn.

“The lads knew it was a great opportunity for us to get three points, it was an important game as every match is important for us. But I think with it being Boxing Day and playing a team down there with us it was important to not lose it and thankfully in the second half we were brilliant and fully deserved the three points.”

Bunn also provided thoughts on substitute Ryan Loft, who came from the bench at half-time to score twice himself and also assist Myles Hippolyte's goal.

He added: “Lofty (Ryan Loft) was brilliant, all the boys were class today, but Lofty offers us that presence up top. For me he’s probably one of the best strikers in the league.

“I get on with him off the pitch, he’s good to play with. He’s a big presence, he’s quick and powerful, I think that helps.”

It’s the first match since the home fixture against Exeter City in September that the attacking winger has completed 90 minutes, and after returning from injury against Hartlepool United as a substitute a fortnight ago, he admitted: “The lack of football last season probably caught up with me a little bit.

“I was fit for the last game (which was called off due to COVID cases in the Bristol Rovers camp) but to have had another week of training has helped with my fitness.

“Hopefully now that I’m back training and playing games I can put a run together from now until the end of the season."

United next take on second-placed Northampton Town this Wednesday evening at the Sands Venue Stadium, with Carlisle United not long after that on New Year's Day.

He said: “From now until the end of the season, every three points is going to be massive for us. But we have to back that victory up against Northampton now and then hopefully start putting some good runs together.

“I don’t think there’s much of a difference in the league between the teams at the top. I think every game is winnable. We’ll look to win every game we go into no matter whether the team is near the top or the bottom."
