The Hampshire-based official will travel to the Sands Venue Stadium for his 16th game of the season and his second involvement in Sky Bet League Two this season. The current campaign is his ninth in the EFL and his fifth season operating as a Select Group Two official, which sees him regularly refereeing in the Championship.

Davies is on the comeback trail from injury, having not refereed in English football's second tier since December 19th. This will be his second game back after getting through his first on Easter Monday.

His first game of the campaign was the Papa John's Trophy match between Plymouth Argyle and Norwich City Under-23s which the Canaries won 3-2. One caution was issued on the night. Meanwhile, his latest game was over Easter, seeing him take charge of the 1-1 draw between Grimsby Town and Cheltenham Town, with no cards shown.

Davies is a rare breed of match official, in that he was a professional footballer with the likes of Gillingham, Portsmouth and Yeovil Town before he was forced into early retirement through injury at the age of 28.

He became a referee from there, commencing in 2004-05, and rose through the levels to be added to the National List of Referees in 2012-13. He was added to the new SG2 (Championship officials) ahead of the 2016-17 season.

The official has taken charge of two previous Iron fixtures, with the lasr coming almost seven years ago. That was a 2-1 home win over Walsall in August 2014 when he issued six cautions. The other encounter was ironically one against Tranmere at Prenton Park. All three cautions on the day - Paul Reid, Andy Barcham and Adda Djeziri all entering his notebook.

Including that game, Davies has taken charge of two previous Tranmere matches, with an away win at Colchester the other, and last, coming in April 2014. Across both matches, he's issued seven yellow cards.

In 2019-20, he took charge of 29 games, issuing 96 yellow cards and three reds, while so far this season, in 15 games, he's shown 42 yellow cards and five reds.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Wade Smith, while Nik Barnard has been appointed as the fourth official.
