Stance on pilot events

16 September 2020

Following the news on Tuesday that more pilot events are hoped to take place this weekend, Scunthorpe United can confirm our stance that we would wish to be considered as a host for one of these should the opportunity arise at a time when we have a home fixture.

Though we play away at Crawley this weekend so wouldn't be eligible, we were informed yesterday morning that EFL clubs who have a home fixture on September 19th/20th are able to apply to stage a pilot event (of which there will be a limited number) with a maximum capacity of 1,000 supporters subject to application, selection and also Safety Advisory Group approval

We are working closely with the EFL, our local Safety Advisory Group and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority to put ourselves in a position where we can welcome supporters back to the Sands Venue Stadium as soon as possible in accordance with Government guidance, and are hopeful that with protocols in place we'd be selected for a pilot to deliver a safe and socially distanced matchday experience to a small number of fans. We would certainly request to be considered if the opportunity came up at a time when we have a home fixture.

If successful, any pilot match we host would be on a strictly-limited, invite-only basis, to rigorously test the stringent matchday procedures we have developed over a number of months.
