Ryan Loft reflected on Saturday’s first match of the Sky Bet League Two season against Newport County and his brilliant first league goal for the club, as he continues to make a strong start in Iron colours.

The forward equalised in the second period after a remarkable 30-yard shot, and he told iFollow Iron: “It was a good game. In the first half we didn’t start as quickly as we wanted to, me included. I think we turned it around in the second half and showed that we have fight in us.

“Luckily, I got a goal in the second half of the game which got us a draw, but in the games coming up we are going to push to get a win.

“I got the ball in midfield and had a little bit of space to go into, we were 1-0 down so I thought I would just hit it. I put my foot through it and luckily found the net.”

Loft explained that his performances in the last two games has made him confident, saying: “At the weekend it could have been better in terms of the first half, but that will come in time in games.

“I'm definitely feeling confident but you have got to keep going and hopefully win some games so the whole team will be feeling confident.

“Everyone should be proud of themselves because they all have a part to play this season.”

This Saturday sees the first away league game of the campaign at Crawley. Loft said that despite it being a lengthy trip, United will go there with a game plan to make sure they come away with a win.

This weekend's hosts lost their first league game 2-0 away at Port Vale, and Loft added: “It will be interesting for us because we thought we could have beaten Port Vale (in the Carabao Cup first round a fortnight ago), but we will see how it is on Saturday.”

Talking about his new life with the Iron, he said: “I’m really enjoying it and I think I have settled in well. There is a good bunch of lads, as well as the manager and staff, so I couldn’t have asked for a better start.”
