For the second season in a row, the Iron will have a new EFL referee taking charge of their opening league game in a campaign, with Benjamin Speedie travelling to the Sands Venue Stadium this weekend.

The Merseyside-based official kicks-off his EFL league career in North Lincolnshire having taken charge of an EFL Trophy game at the start of the month. He was subsequently fourth official on Saturday in the game between Derby County and Barrow in the Carabao Cup.

It goes without saying, Benjamin will take charge of the two sides for the very first time competitively following his promotion to the National List of Referees after one campaign on the National League.

His EFL Trophy match came on September 1st at Brunton Park between Carlisle United and Fleetwood Town. The Cod Army won the game 3-1, with two cautions and one red card shown. The dismissal was shown to the Cumbrians' Gime Toure, who also scored, on the advice of the assistant referee for an alleged kick-out.

Last season, he took charge of a total of 12 matches in the National League, and one in the FA Cup, showing 34 yellow cards and one red.

On Saturday, Will will be assisted by Graeme Fyvie and Paul Graham, while Richard Wigglesworth will assume the role of fourth official.
