Under-18s preview: Bradford City (A)

9 October 2020

The Iron's Under-18s take on Bradford City away from home in the Youth Alliance League this Saturday (11am kick-off).

Please note, in line with the current EFL COVID-19 guidelines, no spectators are permitted at these games.

SCENE-SETTER

It's four weeks since the Iron last took to the field after the last three games against Grimsby Town, Lincoln City and Burton Albion, respectively, were mutually called off following a positive COVID-19 test in the Scunthorpe academy camp, a subsequent further positive test and a series of injuries in thre camp.

When United last played, though, the side won 1-0 against Doncaster Rovers on the opening day thanks to a late goal from Joey Dawson.

Bradford's match last weekend was one of two in the division to go ahead, with three postponed. They lost 3-1 away at Lincoln City and are the only side to have played every week of the season so far.

Rotherham United are top with maximum point from their two games, while the Iron and Grimsby both have 100% records, albeit from just one game. Lincoln City and Mansfield Town are tied on points with the Millers, but have both lost one game each and have an inferior goal difference.

Bradford are ninth in the league out of ten with three points from a possible 12, with Huddersfield Town the only team below them having lost all three of their games.

TEAM NEWS

The Iron's Under-18s have a smaller squad this season and welcomed Under-15s player Harvey Cribb and Under-16s goalkeeper Owen Foster into the squad four weeks ago to name four substitutes.

Jake Balme was in between the sticks in that game, keeping a clean sheet, in the absence of Ben Crosher. The second year goalkeeper is back in contention for this game though, after sitting out through injury.

The other absentee is first-year Ben Franklin who is expected to be out for a total of six-to-eight weeks with an ankle ligament injury although he is already more than halfway through that time schedule.

United have had two COVID-19 cases to content with, along with a whole host of injuries in recent weeks.
