Manager reacts to Taylor addition

1 October 2020

Manager Neil Cox believes he’s added a young player with “a little bit more experience” in signing Jake Taylor on loan from Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old highly-rated midfielder arrives in North Lincolnshire for the 2020-21 campaign.

Speaking following the acquisition to iFollow Iron, Cox said: “He’s come into the camp this morning and looks really fit, strong and raring to go. I think it’s another good player that we’ve managed to get in the building.

“He’s a good all-round footballer with a little bit more experience than most of our lads. He’s looked really sharp this morning in training.”

Taylor scored seven goals in 25 appearances in all competitions last season for Port Vale, who he spent the first part of the campaign on loan to. One of those goals was against the Iron in the 2-1 win for Scunthorpe at home in November 2019.

“Jake went on loan from Nottingham Forest to Port Vale and did really well,” Cox continued.

“He can score goals from midfield and can play in a number of positions. He’s scored some great goals. He gets in the box and arrives in there late. We need to score goals from wide, from midfield and from our forwards.

“He’s another body that we’ve got for our hectic period coming up.”

Taylor joins a growing list of players who have come on loan to United from Forest, with Ryan Yates and Jordan Gabriel both getting valuable match minutes here before going back to the City Ground and breaking their way into the first team.

“I’d like to thank Nottingham Forest for that,” he stated.

“They enjoy having their players come to us as they know we look after them, we play them the right way and we keep them fit. It’s good of Nottingham Forest and Gary Brazil to help us out.”
