Chris Sarginson to referee Cambridge home clash

15 October 2020

Chris Sarginson will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home league encounter against Cambridge United on Saturday.

The Staffordshire-based official arrives at the Sands Venue Stadium for his seventh game of the campaign and his second in Sky Bet League Two.

His first game of the campaign was Bristol City's 2-0 win over Exeter City in Round One of the Carabao Cup. He issued two cautions on the day. Meanwhile, his latest match saw him show four yellow cards in Ipswich Town's 4-1 away win at Blackpool last weekend. His only League Two match to date this season was at Bolton where he oversaw Newport's 2-0 win.

He's taken charge of the Iron on 16 occasions in 12 years, most recently the 2-2 home draw against Crewe Alexandra back in January. The last time on the road was back in September 2018 when he oversaw Stuart McCall's first game in charge of United. Meanwhile, three of those 15 games have been United versus Charlton Athletic. In total, he's shown 35 yellow cards and 4 reds in Scunthorpe United fixtures.

He was last appointed to an Iron fixture back in March, with the side scheduled to travel to Exeter City on Tuesday, 17th, but with the season suspended due to COVID-19, that game never took place.

Meanwhile, he's refereed Cambridge United on nine occasions with the latest back in November 2018. On that day, he dismissed the Us' Paul Lewis for two yellow cards in the 2-2 draw against Bury. The season Sarginson was promoted to the National List - 2007-08 - he took charge of the side three times. In total, across the nine matches, he's issued 26 yellow cards and one red.

In 2018-19, he took charge of 44 games, issuing 138 yellow cards and eight reds, while in 2019-20 he took charge of 28 games with 74 yellow cards and one red. So far this season, in six games, he's shown 15 yellow cards and no reds.

On Saturday, Sarginson will be assisted by Barry Gordon and Alistair Nelson, while Declan Ford has been appointed as the fourth official.
