Peter Wright remains on rearranged Swindon away clash

2 March 2020

Peter Wright has remained on the fixture and will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away league clash against Swindon Town on Tuesday.

The Merseyside-based official will travel to the County Ground for his 27th game of the season and his 13th in Sky Bet League Two. 2019-20 is his second year in the EFL after being promoted to the National List of Referees in the summer of 2018.

He began his referee journey in the Southport-based Craven Minor Football League before spending time in the referee academy programme run by Liverpool County FA at both Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs, alongside a spell with Durham County FA whilst completing his studies at university in the north east.

His first game of the campaign was Sunderland's 1-1 home draw against Oxford United on the opening day, showing five yellow cards. Meanwhile his latest match was the 2-2 draw between Carlisle United and Morecambe at Brunton Park on February 22nd. He issued four cautions. He was fourth official to Michael Salisbury on Sunday in the Sky Sports live encounter between Coventry City and Sunderland.

Last season, Wright took charge of the Iron's goalless draw away at Burton Albion - his first involvement in a Scunthorpe game and his first-ever encounter as a referee in Sky Bet League One. On that day, he issued four cautions - Matthew Lund and Ike Ugbo carded for the Iron. He's since officiated the loss at Portsmouth in League One, with James Perch one of two players to be cautioned on the day.

He has also made one trip to the Sands Venue Stadium last season as Fourth Official to Geoff Eltringham in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster Rovers.

Tuesday will be Wright's first trip to the County Ground as the man in the middle, with his previous four Swindon involvements coming on their travels. The Robins have won three and lost one of the four games, with 10 yellow cards and no reds issued.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 26 games, issuing 70 yellow cards and four red. That included 24 National League games, one FA Cup encounter (Gainsborough Trintiy 0-6 Slough) and a National League play-off game involving Tranmere Rovers and Ebbsfleet United.

Meanwhile, last year, he officiated in 36 encounters, showing 103 yellows and seven reds. So far this season, he has shown 76 yellow cards and three reds in 25 matches.

On Tuesday, Wright will be assisted by Marc Wilson and Alasdair Ross, while Andrew Laver has been appointed as the fourth official.
