Anthony Backhouse will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home Sky Bet League Two clash against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

The Cumbrian-based official will travel to the Sands Venue Stadium for his 27th game of the campaign and his tenth in Sky Bet League Two. The current season is Backhouse's third as an EFL official.

He's refereed the Iron on four previous occasions, with two of those coming on home soil. The first of those games was a 2-0 victory over Portsmouth in which he showed no cards. He was also referee when United clashed with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. This season, he's taken charge of the 0-0 home draw against Stevenage earlier this season, in which he showed one yellow, and the 2-2 away draw at Bradford City back in January, showing five cautions.

Meanwhile, he's been in charge of games involving the Mariners on four past occasions too, most recently last March. Grimsby have won one, drawn one and lost two of their previous matches with Backhouse in the middle, with seven yellow cards shown across those matches.

In 2018-19, he took charge of 39 games, issuing 105 yellow cards and five reds. Meanwhile, in 26 games so far this season, he's shown 83 yellow cards and three reds.

On Saturday, Backhouse will be assisted by Wade Smith and Chris Isherwood, while Barry Gordon has been appointed as the fourth official.
