Under-23s in away Central League Cup action this Tuesday

30 September 2019

The Iron's Under-23 side face Mansfield Town in a Central League Cup clash at the One Call Stadium on Tuesday afternoon (2pm kick-off), with admission free of charge.

Live updates will be available on our official Twitter feed, while you will also be able to see a match report on the official website after the game. Additionally, we will have reaction from Under-23s manager Russ Wilcox on iFollow Iron afterwards.

Speaking ahead of the match in last weekend's matchday programme, Wilcox said: "It's been a long time coming, but we've worked very hard to get to this point. We have three games coming up in the space of eight days, which will be great for the lads."

The game could see further game time for United's players who have made a return to action in recent weeks, but one player who will miss out is John McAtee, who suffered an arm injury in training last week.

First team manager Paul Hurst explained on Saturday: “He slipped in the week in a bit of a freak accident and has partly dislocated his shoulder, so he’s in a sling and will be out for around a couple of months, so that’s a blue to John and us.”

Elsewhere, Under-23s midfielders Omar Sanyang and Jack Lambert (both ankle) are on the sidelines. "We're disappointed for both of them as they're both exciting, young players, but hopefully we will have the opportunity to see them in action and progress them as soon as possible," added Wilcox.

Tuesday's game is the first of two in three days for the Under-23s, who also play on Friday night when they host West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League Cup at the Sands Venue Stadium (details here).
