Midfielder Yann Songo’o is pleased to have returned to the side in the last two matches and hopes to get a run going following the first victory of the season in the Leasing.com Trophy at Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.
Next up for the Iron is a trip to Mansfield Town in League Two on Saturday and the 27-year-old is hoping to get off the mark in the league.
He told iFollow Iron: ”It felt so good (to win on Tuesday) and there was a relief for the players and staff to get that first win. It was important after the last few performances we’ve had, where we’ve felt so unlucky.
“We are looking to carry it on at Mansfield. We want to have that winning mentality and have felt really frustrated in the last few weeks.
“Everyone was smiling (after Tuesday) and hopefully we can get the win on Saturday and a run going. That would be massive for the confidence. We know it’s a tough place to go to and they’ll be very physical, and it will also be tight, but hopefully we can get the three points.”
Songo’o also reflected on his side’s start to the campaign, having returned to the team against Carlisle last weekend following a short spell on the bench.
He added: “The manager gave me an opportunity against Carlisle on Saturday and I tried to do my best. Then I played again on Tuesday and we got the win so I feel good.
“It’s not been the way we wanted to start the season generally, but at the same time it’s been a work in progress due to a lot of new players coming in. I know there can be no excuses, but sometimes time is needed to gel. I think you can see from the last few performances that we’re starting to get somewhere. Hopefully on Saturday we can get the win.”
