The Iron return to action on Tuesday as they host Leicester City Under-21s in the second group stage game in the Leasing.com Trophy (kick-off 7.45pm).
United will be looking to seal their progression to the second round of the competition after beating Grimsby Town 2-1 in their first group stage encounter earlier this month. Kevin van Veen notched a brace at Blundell Park to give Scunthorpe all three points in Group A.
The Foxes play their first encounter in this season's competition with the away side looking to make it out of the group stages for the third time in succession. Leicester's Under-21 side made it through to round three in 2017-18, beating the Iron en route with a very strong side before they were eliminated in round two last season.
Paul Hurst is likely to give the opportunity to some players who have been limited in first team game time over the last few weeks, along with handing minutes to players returning from injuries.
Junior Brown and Yann Songo'o are both likely to miss out in midweek through injuries sustained at Walsall at the weekend, but the duo are expected to be fit for the weekend.
Skipper Andy Butler could be in line for a return to the side after his recent ankle injury, although that depends on his reaction to Monday's training session. Andy Dales (hamstring) and Levi Sutton (medial ligaments) could be handed minutes in the encounter as they come back into the squad following their respective recoveries.
Elsewhere, James Perch is eligible to play in the match after seeing his red card in the first group stage game against Grimsby Town rescinded for a wrongful dismissal.
Jamie Proctor can't figure as he's already played for Rotherham in the competition this season, but also remains sidelined with a knee injury. Lee Novak (knee) is also not yet available for selection.
