Marc Edwards to referee Walsall away clash

18 September 2019

Marc Edwards will take charge of the Iron's away league encounter at Walsall on Saturday.

In what is Edwards' first EFL campaign as a referee, the Tyne and Wear-based official will take charge of the two sides for the very first time competitively following his promotion to the National List of Referees this season.

He has experience in the EFL prior to this season though, first starting as an assistant referee before opting to drop back down to the National League with the whistle, where he remained for two years before being promoted back.

Edwards has currently taken charge of five matches so far this season, his most recent being last Saturday at Port Vale where he oversaw the Valiants' 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle. He showed three cautions in the game.

Last season, he took charge 21 National League matches and one FA Cup match, showing 72 yellow cards and one red. So far this season, in the five matches he has refereed, he has shown 11 yellow cards and no reds.

On Saturday, Marc will be assisted by Billy Smallwood and Kevin Morris, while Christopher Husband will assume the role of fourth official.
