Songo'o reflects on Cobblers victory

15 October 2019

Yann Songo’o praised an “unbelievable” first-half performance, as his side ran out 3-0 winners over Northampton Town.

The Iron have now recorded just one defeat in the last seven games, snatching a point late in the day against Songo’o’s former club Plymouth Argyle the previous weekend.

He told iFollow Iron: ”It’s a win we’ve been looking for, for a long time. We haven’t been winning enough but at the same time, we haven’t been losing.

“That was a build up from last week. The team put in a great performance away at Plymouth.”

The Iron struck early in the first period, with Lee Novak at the double and Kevin van Veen netting his third league goal of the campaign.

“The first half today was unbelievable. We showed great character, pressed them really high and got the result early doors,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of the clean sheet, with Jake Eastwood coming on in place of Rory Watson after the shot-stopper was taken out by Vadaine Oliver.

“That’s so important. We got three goals and a clean sheet. We haven’t had a clean sheet for a while,” he explained. “Our confidence has been up.”

The defensive midfielder was narrowly outvoted for man of the match by goalscorer Novak but insisted the accolade could have been anybody’s after an impressive display in the first 45 minutes.

He concluded: “In the first-half, anyone could have got it. We need to carry on, do the work and hopefully we carry that on next week.”
