Clayton Lewis and New Zealand U23s qualify for next year's Olympic Games

5 October 2019

Iron midfielder Clayton Lewis has added a further cap to his tally as New Zealand Under-23s defeated the Solomon Islands 5-0 to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

New Zealand raced into a three-goal lead by the half-hour mark. Captain Logan Rogerson scored early on, pouncing on a loose ball after Lewis had released Ben Waine down the left and it took just 20 more minutes for New Zealand to find a second, and then soon a third.

Myer Bevan struck his 12th goal of the tournament with 20 minutes remaining from a well-worked free kick routine with Lewis.

Then, in stoppage time, defender Billy Jones popped up to head in another Lewis free kick.

The Iron midfielder played the full 90 minutes.
