Under-18s Preview: Huddersfield Town (A)

22 November 2019

The Iron's Under-18 side return to Youth Alliance League action for the first time since October 19th as they travel to face Huddersfield Town (kick-off 11am).

In the meantime, the side have played just twice, winning both of the opening rounds of their FA Youth Cup campaign.

The game will be played at PPG Canalside, 509 Leeds Road, Huddersfield HD2 1YJ.

SCENE-SETTER

The Iron edged past Notts County 1-0 after extra time in Round One before making progress once again against Morpeth Town (2-1) over a week ago. They will look forward to a trip to face West Bromwich Albion in the third round.

Harry Jessop got both goals in the latter tie to put United in what looked a commanding 2-0 lead at the interval. The visitors came back with a double substitution at the break and one of those players got a goal back to set up a very nervy finish with the Highwaymen continually knocking on the Iron door.

Aside from those two fixtures, the Iron haven't played in five weeks in the EFL competitions, with five fixtures across the Youth Alliance League and Cup all falling victim to the weather.

Huddersfield Town's Under-18s come into the fixture off the back of a 5-1 home defeat against Notts County in the league. Prior to that, they lost 2-0 away at Burton Albion in the Youth Alliance Cup, while their FA Youth Cup campaign gets underway at the third round stage with an away tie at Chelsea.

A side made up of predominantly Under-17s players, the side currently sit in ninth place with 10 points from nine games. United have already faced the side earlier in the season, with a Levi Gallimore hat-trick putting the team in a commanding 3-0 lead before the visitors got one back at Winterton Rangers to make it 3-1.

TEAM NEWS

The Iron come into the game with 10 days recovery, and will be buoyed by progression in the FA Youth Cup. United will be eager to continue their winning run and stretch it to five straight wins in all competitions.

Joey Dawson, who came off with a calf injury in the Round One tie against Notts County returned to the side to complete 90 minutes in midweek. Two-goal Harry Jessop was forced off in midweek after battling for his hat-trick and will be assessed ahead of the latest clash.

Central defender Oliver Kemp missed the midweek cup tie through injury, with Fin Shrimpton - who was skipper on the night - dropping back into that role. Kemp will be assessed ahead of the game.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ben Crosher remains sidelined through injury.

LAST LINE-UP: Collins, Baker, Lobley, Dawson, Barks, Shrimpton, D Gallimore, Wilson, L Gallimore (Wilkinson, 60), Jessop (Virgo, 86), Silva
