Under-18s Preview: Chesterfield (A)

8 November 2019

The Iron's Under-18 side return to Youth Alliance Cup action this Saturday, travelling to face Chesterfield at St George's Park, Sheffield (kick-off 11am).

SCENE-SETTER

The side head into the encounter off the back of a hard-fought 1-0 victory against their Notts County counterparts at Meadow Lane in Round One of the FA Youth Cup.

The match went to extra time, with Raynner Silva scoring direct from a corner to ensure passage through to face Morpeth Town in the second round at the Sands Venue Stadium. Aside from that fixture, the Iron haven't played in three weeks in the EFL competitions, with three fixtures across the Youth Alliance League and Cup all falling victim to the weather.

The Spireites come into the game off the back of being knocked out of the same competition on Monday night.

They lost 2-1 at home to Burton Albion to miss out on getting through. Meanwhile, their latest league game came at the weekend as they defeated Notts County 2-1 to record their second league victory of the season.

Chesterfield currently sit bottom in the Youth Alliance Cup Group 4 with no points from their opening two games. They're also yet to score in this season's competition and have shipped seven goals. United are three points better off from the same number of matches and sit third in the league, having beaten Grimsby Town 2-0 last time out. Walsall are currently top with maximum points from their two games.

The game will be played at St George's Park, Moss Way, Sheffield, S20 8FA.

TEAM NEWS

The United side might be leggy following 120 minutes in midweek to get past Notts County, but the team will be eager to continue their winning run and stretch it to four straight wins in all competitions.

Joey Dawson came off with a calf injury in that win, and will be assessed ahead of the game, with a number of players all feeling the effects of the effort put in at Meadow Lane.

Alex Wilkinson, who got five minutes off the bench, and Luca Chadli, who was the unused substitute, may push for starts to freshen things up.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ben Crosher remains sidelined through injury.

LAST LINE-UP: Collins, Baker, Lobley, Wilson, Barks, Kemp, Shrimpton, Dawson (D Gallimore, 66), L Gallimore (Virgo, 66), Jessop (Wilkinson, 115), Silva.

SUBS NOT USED: Chadli.
