OTD: November 16

16 November 2019

Remembering past matches played by the Iron on November 16...

Former Iron players born on this day: Danny Bowen (1921), Noel Parkinson (1959), Hugh Wood (1960), Paul D Wilson (1960), Anthony Forde (1993).

Hat-trick hero Steve Torpey fired Scunthorpe into the FA Cup second round following a comfortable win at Northwich On This Day in 2002.

In a scrappy start to the game, the visitors made much of the early play but struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

But Torpey converted an Andy Dawson cross from close range just before half-time.

He then settled Scunthorpe's obvious nerves with a far-post header after the resumption - his 13th goal of the season.

Scunthorpe goalkeeper Tom Evans denied Jimmy Quinn as the hosts tried to get back into the game.

But a penalty converted by Torpey after Lee Featherstone had been fouled by Mathew Parry settled the match.

Overall playing record for November 16: Played 7, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 1, Scored 13, Conceded 7.
