The manager believed the result flattered their opponents.
He told iFollow Iron: “The scoreline is harsh but, ultimately, we’ve been knocked out of the cup.
“In the second half, the performance deserved more than that. We were more positive in our play and got the equaliser and looked the more likely team to go on and win it.”
He talked through the performance as Ryan Colclough levelled for the Iron in the second half before the Red Devils restored their lead two minutes later.
“We went 2-1 behind and it was a good strike but we let him come in on his stronger foot,” he explained.
“After that, we had a great chance with Alex Gilliead but he’s put the ball over the bar.”
The hosts struck twice in two minutes late in the day to seal the win and route to the Second Round of the competition.
“Then they get the third and the fourth at the end," he said.
“I don’t know what we were doing for the fourth. We mess around with the ball and they nick it and punish us.”
He called for his players to be more clinical in their finishing.
Hurst continued: “You’ve got to be ruthless, whatever level you’re at. In the first half, Jamie Proctor had a couple of headers that haven’t gone in.”
The boss gave an update on Yann Songo’o, who was forced to withdraw from the game with injury.
“At the minute he can’t feel his big toe which doesn’t sound too good," he said.
“That makes it difficult in that midfield area. Yann has played a high percentage of games.”
The Iron boss also gave an idea of when he expects Regan Slater and Jamie Ward to be back in contention.
“It’s better news than we first thought regarding Regan," he said. "Six weeks is the earliest we can expect him back.”
He added: “Jamie’s going to be two weeks which isn’t ideal. We know what he can bring. We have got other attacking options thankfully.”
Before the game, the manager revealed Levi Sutton missed out with a broken finger, while Harrison McGahey was absent through illness.
“Today, just prior to coming to the game, Harrison fell ill so he couldn’t be in the squad.”
