Four second-year scholars to depart the Iron

14 March 2019

The Iron can confirm that four second-year academy scholars are to leave the club at the end of the season.

The club would like to place on record their thanks for the hard work of Joe Busby, Liam Colclough, James Kalu and Cameron Morfoot while at the club and wish them all the best for the future.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: “As a football club, we will be supporting the four second-year scholars who are not being offered a contract and, like previous years, some have a career pathway which will take them onto university, which is fantastic.

“Once again, I’d also like to thank all the academy staff and the tutors at John Leggott College who have assisted our scholars in achieving 100% pass rate in their academic studies, which places Scunthorpe United in the top 10% of all EFL Clubs for Academic success in the last six years. We also reserve an extra thanks to our partners, the St Lawrence Academy, for the continued use of their superb facilities and the support of our programme.”

Academy captain Tom Pugh has signed his first professional deal with the club, while Miracle Okafor, Louis Collins, Jack Harrison and Sam Riches continue to be monitored as the current season progresses.
