The United squad return on Wednesday, June 26th as they start their preparations for the 2019-20 League Two campaign, and travel to La Manga at the weekend for a training camp.

Hurst explained to iFollow Iron: “The (coaching) staff will be in this Monday. We’ll have a meeting and make sure everything is ready, and then we’ll welcome the players back on Wednesday. We’ll have a meeting with the players and then, very quickly, the hard work will commence. We’ll work each day ahead of the trip to La Manga, and there will be very hard intense work for the players over the following weeks.

“I’m a big believer that the amount of days you put in on the training ground in pre-season will benefit you in the long run. Hopefully we can manage that and start building a good base of fitness that will hopefully see us through a tough and gruelling campaign.

“We’ll do some testing (initially), but they will be doing the work as well. We’ll be straight into it. The footballs will be out and there will be plenty of exercises that simply involve running as well, because the large part of running you do in a game is without a football. It’ll be a nice mix.

“There will be gym sessions as well, and it’s also about me and Chris Doig (assistant manager) having the time to start having individual chats with the players and build relationships.

“We’ll be very quickly trying to get our message across about what we expect and how we want to play moving forward.”
