Wootton: Let's carry it on

25 January 2019

Kyle Wootton is looking forward to carrying on the job he’s been doing after signing a contract extension until the summer of 2021.

The forward, who has risen up through the club’s academy since the age of nine, has started the Iron’s last seven games and played a key role in the five game unbeaten run that’s seen the club climb the League One table in recent weeks.

It’s the longest run of games the 22-year-old has enjoyed in the side and he’s vowed to continue working hard to keep that going.

He also hailed manager Stuart McCall for giving him the chance and showing faith, as well as the fans for backing him.

He told iFollow Iron: “It’s a big positive. The manager’s helped me massively and given me the opportunity to play and show what I’m about. He’s praised me a lot and helped me so much along the way.

“Being brought up here and coming through the system, seeing the fans’ appreciation has been massive too. I really appreciate the support everyone has given me.

“I’ve been here since the age of nine and to be here for another couple of years now is great.

“I’m showing my commitment to thank the club for showing their commitment to me. It’s a massive plus and I’m excited to see what the next two-and-a-half years will bring.

“I just want to carry on doing what I’ve been doing, keep working hard and hopefully extend my stint in the team, climb the table this season and in years to come climb the leagues.

“I’ve got to that age where I’ve matured as a player and it was a case of just getting the opportunity. You’ve got to take it and keep working hard.”

Fellow academy product Levi Sutton has also enjoyed his longest spell in the side during the unbeaten run, starting the last seven games too, and Wootton added: “I’ve played with Levi since I was nine or 10 and to still be playing with him at the age of 22 is crazy! It’s great we can play together still, as we’ve known each other that long. We’re both having a good run in the team and hopefully we can keep it going.”
