Webster 'super happy' to join the Iron

4 January 2019

Defender Byron Webster is ‘super happy’ and hoping to get back to playing games week-in week-out after completing a move to the Iron from Millwall.

The 31-year-old pens a deal until the end of the season to further strengthen Scunthorpe’s defensive options as they look to climb the table in the second-half of the season.

He told iFollow Iron: “It’s come about quickly. I came down to meet the manager and chairman, and everyone was positive. I’m really excited to join the club.

“It’s great to get the business done straight away and then get playing games.

“I’ve got a young family and it’s good to get back up north as well. It’s a big factor and I’m happy it’s been done this early so I can concentrate on playing football.”

The aim for Webster is to get into a side that’s won two games in succession, also not conceding any in those 180+ minutes.

“I always give 100 per cent and try to keep clean sheets,” he added. “I play with a smile on my face. The team have kept two clean sheets recently, so first and foremost I need to try and get in the team and then go from there.

“I have experienced two promotions from this league, so whether it’s this season making a late burst or next season hopefully we can be up there.”

Summing up his four-and-a-half year stint at Millwall which saw him make 137 appearances, he concluded: “I can’t speak highly enough of the club, fans, manager and chairman. It’s been a really enjoyable time there but things have to come to an end and I can’t wait to get back playing games, playing for Scunthorpe and hopefully it’s a positive move.”
