McGahey: Buzzing we've got it over the line

4 January 2019

New signing Harrison McGahey is looking forward to getting started at the Iron, having signed from fellow League One side Rochdale on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The central defender, who has been a key part of the Rochdale team for the past three seasons, is looking forward to the prospect of making an impression in the claret and blue of Scunthorpe.

In his first interview since signing for the club, McGahey gave his reaction to joining us to iFollow Iron.

“I’m buzzing that we’ve got it over the line,” said the 23-year-old.

“I think it is good to get it done early so you can get settled in earlier and get ready for the rest of the season.”

The Iron have already added Tony McMahon and Adam Hammill to their squad this transfer window, as well as re-signing Dutch striker Kevin van Veen.

McGahey cannot wait to play with the new players and link up with some old faces.

He said: “There have been a few good signings here already.

“I was at Blackpool with McMahon so I know him will. Matt Gilks was there as well and I was with Lundy (Matthew Lund) at Rochdale.

“It is always good to have competition because it keeps you on top of your game.”

The aim for McGahey is to help United win promotion to the Championship over the next couple of seasons and he is pleased the side have won their last two games.

He added: “I want to get to the Championship with Scunthorpe. If it is not this season, then maybe next season.

“They have won the last two games so I think the club is on the up.”

Finally, the new centre-back gave the Iron fans a hint at what they can expect from him on the pitch.

“I like playing out from the back and I want to get as many clean sheets as I can,” said McGahey.
