Abo Eisa and Kevin van Veen gave Scunthorpe the lead against the U’s before the visitors hit back through Luke Norris and Luke Prosser in the second half.
Hurst said: “It is mixed feelings. We’re pleased to have kept a run going in one sense, and picked up another point, moving up the table again.
“It’s difficult to be overjoyed though when you’ve been 2-0 up in a game at home, and looking relatively comfortable. I don’t think they actually created too many chances. They had spells in the game admittedly but not where Jake (Eastwood) has been really forced into action.
“I think we had the better chances on the afternoon without it being us totally dominating. It was a strange game in one way, but we did have four chances in the first half where Dean Gerken made some good saves. We got in front with a really good goal from Abo Eisa.
“I spoke about trying to lift the tempo and quality during the second period, and straight away we got that and scored the second goal. I was really pleased for Kev because we spoke about him getting in the box to score more ‘striker’s goals’ and he won’t get a much easier goal, but that’s because he put himself in the area to do that.
“The first goal we conceded was a very poor one, but we were still 2-1 up in the game. Their second came from a long throw we dealt with initially, we didn’t get out to stop the cross and a good ball came in from their point of view, which the lad did great to keep in at the back post. I think we perhaps thought it was going out and switched off slightly, and then it was 2-2.
“After that, we probably didn’t do enough to force a winner but also didn’t look like conceding. It got a bit scrappy and the pitch seemed to be bobbly and there wasn’t a great deal of quality on show.
“All of that said, I think we have to consider that we were playing against a team just outside the play-offs, and for me one of the better teams in the division. We came out equal in terms of a point, and over the course of the game I felt we were slightly the better team. We keep going because there certainly were some positives to take from it, as it was another point and another unbeaten game at home.”
Reacting to James Perch coming off with five minutes left, Hurst added: “He’s felt the medial ligament on his knee so we’ll have to assess that moving forward. At the moment, it’s difficult to say how bad it is. He’s a tough lad and doesn’t miss many games, so hopefully it’ll just be a knock and in a couple of days he’ll be back out there.”
