The attacker scored his fourth goal of the season in the 57th minute to give Scunthorpe the lead at the New Lawn, before Abo Eisa added the second on 71 minutes to help the team climb to 14th in the League Two table.

It was an impressive win for the Iron, who were facing a team sitting second going into the game.

Gilliead said: “It’s a very big win. It’s only three points at the end of the day, but it’s great to come somewhere like Forest Green, who are obviously doing well in the league and sitting second, keep a clean sheet and score two good goals. We still had other chances as well, so we’re over the moon.

“Kev (van Veen) had it in the middle, so I just made a run off him and it came to us. I wasn’t going to shoot, but I didn’t have much else on so I just hit it and caught it as sweet as anything.

“In the past few weeks we’ve shown we can mix it up, and do whatever it takes to get results. I think when we played Blackpool in the last game (in the Leasing.com Trophy second round), it was totally different to Saturday but we can dig in and get different types of goals.

“We’ve got momentum at the minute, everyone’s confidence is high, we’re playing well and everyone’s pushing each other. We all want to be in the starting eleven and it’s a good place to be.”

The focus now switches to Colchester United on Saturday, with a victory having the potential to send the Iron 11th in the league.

He added: “At the minute, we’re taking it a game at a time. It was three points today and a good win, but our focus changes to Colchester, who are another side doing alright as well. We’ll just focus on ourselves and trying to get another three points.”
