He reflected on the loss with iFollow Iron: “Saturday was a tough one to take; tougher than the previous ones with how we played and the chances we created.

“We’ve looked back on them and there were 11 or 12 good chances.”

The attacker is hoping to build on the first-half performance at Moss Rose, believing the Iron should have been out of sight by the interval.

“Arguably, we should have been three or four going into half time and the game should’ve been done with,” he said.

“Some of the football we played at times was very, very good. We had a massive period where we were on top in the game.”

He concluded: “We watched the video the other day and went through the positives. We’ll try and take a bit of that into the weekend’s game.”

Nonetheless, the Sheffield United loanee is enjoying his time at the Sands Venue Stadium and the Blades have kept an eye on his progress.

He added: “I’m really enjoying my time. I’m getting the game time I came for. It’s a good group of boys here. It would be better if we could pick those first three points up.

“Someone was here on Thursday (from Sheffield United assessing him) and they’re always looking and watching what I’m doing.”

The Iron welcome Carlisle United to North Lincolnshire at the weekend and Slater knows all too well what the Cumbrians are about, having spent time on loan at Brunton Park last season.

He said: “I’ve was there last year. I know how they play. I know they have good quality and they’ll be very good on the counter attack. They have a lot of energy.

“Everyone has weaknesses, so we’ll look to exploit them.”
