The Iron travel to the New Meadow this weekend looking to return to winning ways.
Speaking to iFollow Iron previewing the fixture, the defender firstly reflected back on the game against AFC Wimbledon last weekend.
He said: “(Caretaker manager Andy Dawson) has come in and put across some new ideas. In the first half, we didn’t really get going, but during the second period, the way we wanted to play came across a lot more.
“We created a lot of chances and we could have scored a couple of goals as well. We missed a few opportunities, but we passed the ball out well from the back and managed to put some crosses into the area for the attackers to get on the end of, so overall there are definitely positives to take going into this weekend.”
Pearce has enjoyed working under Dawson and says he’s had a good influence on the rest of team since taking the reins.
“It’s been enjoyable. He’s very positive and all the players are buying into what he is trying to do. I think it will be a good end to the season” he added.
The game also marked Pearce’s return to the Iron after recently being away on international duty with England Under-20’s.
Pearce featured in the Young Lions’ two matches against Poland and Portugal and was delighted to earn a call-up to Paul Simpson’s side.
Speaking about his time away with England, he said: “It was really good. It’s always a pleasure to play for my country.
“It’s a great feeling to be selected to represent England and hopefully I’ll have a future with them. Unfortunately, the results didn’t quite go our way, but personally I thought I did well.”
However, now back with Scunthorpe, the defender is looking forward to the prospect of playing against Shrewsbury and expects the game to be a challenging one.
He stated: “It’ll be a tough game. We’ve watched quite a few videos of them and how they play, and we will do what we can to try and come away with the win.”
Shrewsbury currently sit 15th in the Sky Bet League One table and have won two out of their last three matches. Pearce says it’s vital to get a result against a side who sit in close proximity, and who United can overtake on the day.
He added: “Every game for us is important, but especially the ones against the teams around us. Hopefully, we can get the three points.”
Speaking about how preparations have been going in training ahead of the encounter, Pearce said: “We worked on how we want to play. We did a bit more practice on shape today (Thursday) and we’ll continue to do that (on Friday). We’ll also look at how they are likely to set up, but we’ll go there looking to play our own game.”
