The 33-year-old came off with a hamstring injury against Shrewsbury last weekend along with left-back Tom Pearce, who had a groin injury and will be assessed ahead of Saturday.
However, Dawson has been boosted with the return of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Levi Sutton to the squad.
Ahead of the Burton game, Dawson previewed the match to iFollow Iron and provided us with the latest team news.
Dawson said: “We wish Macca a quick and full recovery, but he will be out over Easter.
“Tom also came off the other day and had a scan on Tuesday, so we will be assessing him to see if he will be available for Saturday.”
“Both Levi and CBJ have trained this week,” added the caretaker manager.
“Levi is a lot better now (after illness) and Cam has come back from his hamstring injury. Both are back and in contention for the squad on Saturday."
Burton Albion make the visit to Glanford Park on Saturday and Dawson wants his players to go and express themselves against Nigel Clough's side, who United have already beaten in the FA Cup earlier this season and drawn away at in the league.
He said: “You need to give your everything, be brave in possession and out of it, and then express yourself showing what a good player you are. It is important that we keep everybody motivated and going.
"You have to defend in games, but if we can show what we can do in our offensive game we can also hurt Burton.
“There are five games left and it will be nice to get the points quicker rather than later."
