Paul Marsden to referee Oxford United home clash

1 November 2018

Paul Marsden will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home league clash against Oxford United.

The Lancashire-based official will travel to Glanford Park for his twelfth game of the campaign and his first-ever in Sky Bet League One.

His first game of the campaign saw him officiate in Mansfield Town's opening day 3-0 victory over Newport County in which Neal Bishop became his first EFL yellow card. His most recent appointment came in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday when he oversaw Manchester City U21s slender 1-0 away victory at Tranmere Rovers. On that night, he didn't show any cards.

Being his first fixture in Sky Bet League One, Marsden is yet to take charge of a game between either the Iron or Oxford United and has made the step-up to the EFL after just one campaign on the National League.

He was the fourth official at the National League play-off final at Wembley at the end of last season when Tranmere defeated Boreham Wood 2-1. He then became one of just six to make the leap into the professional game after a hugely impressive season in the middle.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 21 games in the National League, issuing 74 yellow cards and eight reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in eleven encounters, showing 20 yellows and two reds.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Matthew Jones and Wayne Grunnill, while David Benton has been appointed as the fourth official.
