When previewing the fixture, he said: “It’s been a tough couple of weeks for us in terms of the results. However, we are going to look to be a bit more solid at the back and try to limit the amount of goals we have been conceding.

“We are still creating chances, which is a positive, and we have to look to take as many of them as we can. Hopefully, this weekend (against Oxford) will be the week where we can turn it around.”

Despite defeat against Plymouth last time out, the centre-back remains confident that Scunthorpe can bounce back this weekend as there were still plenty of positives to take from the game.

He went on to say: “We were disappointed to go into half-time at 2-0 down and the goal just before the break was a little bit of killer. Although when we came out for the second half, we scored early on and it looked like only one team was going to score - that being us.

“We created lots of opportunities and on another day, they go in, but we have to stop the goals going in at the back. If we do, I’m sure that we can start picking up the results again.”

It’s the second of three back-to-back home games in all competitions for the Iron and Goode believes that now is the time to start pushing on again in front of the Glanford Park faithful.

He added: “We’ve been known for having good, solid home form over the last few years, so we’ve got to start that run going again. We can understand the fans' frustrations at the minute with the results not quite going our way, but we are working very hard and hopefully we can get some wins, starting this weekend against Oxford.”

Oxford have had a mixed start to the campaign, but the defender knows that they will provide a difficult opposition for the Iron on Saturday.

He stated: “It’ll be another testing game. They’ve picked up some good results recently, even though they haven’t had the best of starts to the season. They have some decent players and I expect it to be a tough test, although I think it’s one that we can overcome.

“We’ll look at them, but it’s about us. We need to go out there, play our game, create chances and be solid in defence. If we can do all those things, I feel as though we can definitely win the game.”

Talking about his final thoughts ahead of the match-up this weekend, he said: “As a defender, it would be really nice to get a clean sheet. Then, if we can go up the other end of the pitch and create opportunities to score, I think we can put ourselves in a good position to get the three points and add to the tally.”
