The 20-year-old midfielder was at the heart of the midfield as the Iron beat fellow contenders Plymouth 2-0 to secure a place in the play-offs.

Yates discussed the fans and his feelings at the final whistle in an interview with iFollow Iron

ON THE IMPACT THAT THE CROWD HAD…
RY: It was probably the best atmosphere that we’ve had since I have been here. It was fantastic and had a really good feel about it. When we had sticky patches they still got behind us which was fantastic to hear, so more of the same please.

ON HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE HIS OWN CHANT OF ‘SUPER RYAN YATES’…
RY: That’s quality. I love that and if they can carry that on then that would be great.

ON SECURING A PLAY-OFF PLACE…
RY: It’s fantastic. I came here to play in these kind of high pressure games and we came away with a result which is fantastic.

ON HOW HEARING THAT FINAL WHISTLE FELT…
RY: I was so relieved. We just want to win. It’s so important against direct rivals. I’m relieved and happy with both my own performance and the team’s to get the result.

ON GETTING A GREAT PERFORMANCE AS WELL AS THE RESULT…
RY: It was so important. Walsall wasn’t the best performance but we got the win which is what we needed at the time. I thought that we did need to put on a performance last night with having the Sky cameras here and that added pressure. However, we took that in our stride and kept another clean sheet. We just have to carry on the momentum now.

ON WHETHER THE RUN OF FORM IS COMING AT THE PERFECT TIME…
RY: I think that it is. I’m just focusing on each game as it comes. I really am. I keep working on little things that I can improve. That momentum that we have is really important going into the later stages of the season so we just have to keep it going.

ON HOW MUCH PRESSURE THE RESULT TAKES OFF THE BRADFORD GAME…
RY: It is a relief to be honest. We have to be professional, keep our high standards and keep our performance levels though. If we have a poor performance on Saturday we don’t want to take that into the play-off games. Therefore, we need to keep that high standard of performance and keep working hard.

ON THE GOALS…
RY: They were fantastic. When you break through into that line of Josh (Morris), Haks (Hakeeb Adelakun) and Duane (Holmes) they are going to do something special. On his day Haks is a fantastic footballer. He reversed the ball for his goal which I wasn’t expecting and I don’t think the ‘keeper was either. It was a great finish and all credit to him.

ON HOW MUCH HIS LOAN SPELL AT THE IRON IS HELPING HIM…
RY: It is so important. The lads have made me feel so welcome since my first day here. It took me a while to break into the team but I’m thriving on it and feel like I’m improving. That’s the most important thing.
